Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a regular holiday and a special non-working day?

On a regular holiday you are paid 100% even without working, and 200% if you work. On a special non-working day the rule is no work, no pay; if you work, you get 130%.

What is a double holiday?

Two regular holidays on the same date, such as when Araw ng Kagitingan falls on Maundy Thursday. Unworked, you get 200%; worked, 300%.

Do monthly-paid employees get holiday pay?

Yes, but it is usually already inside the monthly salary if your employer uses the 261 or 313-day factor. Working on the holiday still earns the premium on top.

Who isn’t covered?

Government workers, managerial staff, field personnel whose hours can’t be checked, and retail or service businesses with fewer than 10 workers are exempt from holiday pay under the Labor Code.

Which days are holidays this year?

The President proclaims the list each year, and extra special days can be declared at short notice. Check the latest proclamation before payroll.
