DepEd Grading System 2026: New Weights, Transmutation and How to Compute Grades

What changed under DepEd Order No. 15, s. 2026, the new component weights, how a term grade is computed and transmuted, passing grades and descriptors.

Updated

From School Year 2026–2027, public schools follow DepEd Order No. 15, s. 2026, the revised guidelines on classroom assessment and grading for the K to 12 program. If you computed grades under the old DO 8 s. 2015, a few things are different: the components were renamed and re-weighted, exams are now split into parts, the school year runs in terms, and the transmutation table changed.

This summary is based on published explanations of the order. Your school’s records follow the official text of DO 15 s. 2026.

The three components

Every learning area for Grades 4 to 12 is graded on three components:

Component weights

Learning area WW PT EX
English, Filipino, Math, Science, Araling Panlipunan, GMRC / Values Education (Grades 4–10) 20% 50% 30%
MAPEH, EPP / TLE (Grades 4–10) 20% 60% 20%
SHS core subjects and academic electives 20% 50% 30%
SHS arts, sports, health and wellness electives 20% 60% 20%
SHS TechPro electives 15% 65% 20%
SHS field exposure, apprenticeship, creative production 15% 70% 15%
SHS research electives, design and innovation 40% 60% —
SHS work immersion 20% 80% —

The exam score combines Summative Test 1 (30%), Summative Test 2 (30%) and the Term Exam (40%). For field exposure, apprenticeship and creative production, only the term exam counts.

How a term grade is computed

  1. Percentage score for each component: total raw score ÷ highest possible score × 100.
  2. Exam score: ST1 × 30% + ST2 × 30% + Term Exam × 40%.
  3. Initial grade: add up each component’s percentage score × its weight.
  4. Transmute the initial grade using the table below to get the term grade, a whole number.

The final grade for the year is the average of the term grades, rounded to a whole number. Passing is 75.

Worked example

A Grade 8 Science student has these percentage scores in a term:

Exam score: 65 × 30% + 70 × 30% + 68 × 40% = 67.7. Initial grade: 70 × 20% + 75 × 50% + 67.7 × 30% = 71.81. Transmuted: 71.81 falls in the 71.18–72.35 row, so the term grade is 76, passing.

If the same student’s three term grades were 84, 86 and 88, the final grade for the year would be 86.

The 2026–2027 transmutation table

For SY 2026–2027, an adjusted table applies. An initial grade of 70.00 transmutes to 75, the passing grade; above 70, each step of about 1.18 points adds one grade, and below 70 each step of about 4.67 points. The lowest reportable grade is 60. See the full transmutation table on the DepEd Grade Calculator.

From SY 2027–2028, Grades 4 to 12 move to zero-based grading with no transmutation: an initial grade of 75 is simply a term grade of 75.

Who this doesn’t cover

Grade 12 learners still on the old senior high curriculum use the DO 8 s. 2015 weights with the adjusted table, and Grades 1 to 3 have their own rules, moving toward descriptive grades. Ask your teacher if you’re unsure which applies to you.
