How to use this calculator

  1. Pick your aircon’s horsepower and type to fill in a typical wattage and load.
  2. Swap in the rated power from your unit’s label, your hours of use, and your rate per kWh.

How it’s computed

Average power = rated watts × average load ÷ 100.

Monthly kWh = average power × hours per day × days ÷ 1,000. Monthly cost = monthly kWh × rate per kWh.

The starting loads (80% non-inverter, 50% inverter) are rough planning assumptions. Actual use varies with room size, insulation, and outdoor temperature.

Example

A 1 HP aircon rated 850 W, used 8 hours a night for 30 nights at ₱12.00 per kWh:

  • Non-inverter at 80% load: 163.2 kWh, about ₱1,958.40 a month.
  • Inverter at 50% load: 102 kWh, about ₱1,224.00 a month.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 1 HP aircon cost per month?

It depends on hours of use, the unit’s efficiency and your rate. At ₱12.00 per kWh and 8 hours a night, a typical 1 HP non-inverter costs around ₱1,958.40 a month. Use your own rate and unit wattage for a closer figure.

How much do inverter aircons really save?

Inverter compressors slow down once the room reaches the set temperature instead of switching fully on and off. Savings depend on room size, insulation, outdoor heat and thermostat setting; long daily use in a well-sized room saves the most.

What does “time at full power” mean?

The share of running time the aircon draws its full rated power. It is an assumption, not a measurement. If you know your unit’s kWh per year from its energy label, divide by 365 and by your daily hours to calibrate.

How can I lower my aircon’s electricity use?

Set the thermostat to 24–25°C, clean the filters every two weeks, close doors and curtains, use an electric fan to circulate air, and pick a unit sized for your room.
